Welcome to Bolton Music Service online

There are four Percussion Ensembles at Bolton Music Centre which cover a wide age range from 5 to 18 years, and abilities from beginner to advanced.
 
The Beginner and Intermediate ensembles practice on Friday whilst the Senior ensemble practice on Monday evening. Many of the players who learn their percussion skills in these ensembles join one of the orchestras, wind bands or brass bands as well as performing with the ensemble.

Junior Percussion Ensemble

The Junior Percussion Ensemble provides an opportunity for pupils aged 7 and upward with little or no musical experience to make music together using an array of percussion instruments, whilst at the same time enabling further development for members who move up from the Beginner Percussion Ensemble.  

The ensemble rehearse every Friday at the Music Centre from 6.00pm – 6.45pm and takes part in at least three performances throughout the year. The ensemble acts as a provider to some of the other junior ensembles that require percussion, such as brass and woodwind groups and many of the members move up to the Intermediate Percussion Ensemble.

Intermediate Percussion Ensemble

Membership of the Intermediate Ensemble is based on ability. Pupils will have either attended the Junior Percussion Ensemble or have attained a good standard on a percussion instrument such as drum kit, snare drum, xylophone etc. Pupils must be able to read music.

The ensemble rehearse every Friday evening at the Music Centre from 7.00pm – 8.00pm and takes part in at least three performances throughout the year. The ensemble helps as a provider to some of the other intermediate ensembles that require percussion, such as brass, woodwind and orchestras. Many of the members move up to the Senior Percussion Ensemble.
